Kirsti Ilvessalo
Textile artist Kirsti Ilvessalo is best known by her impressive wall rugs, a few hundred of which she has designed and which have been manufactured in her weaving factory. Beside wall rugs the collection has consisted of hand woven furnishing fabrics both for private customers and companies. She has also acted as a teacher for textile design in the Institute of Industrial Arts and Crafts.
Kirsti Ilvessalo participated in a jewellery design competition arranged by Kalevala Jewelry in 1947 with her necklace Doll. She didn´t win the competition but the design was remeeded to Kalevala Jewelry’s collection. The designer herself told that she used wooden figures of poor old men in churches as models for her jewellery.
