Gemstones

Precious stones have been used for at least 7,000 years, as symbols of status and wealth. In ancient times, precious stones were shrouded in a veil of supernatural mystery and they were worn as amulets or talismans. Apart from as a protection to the wearer from evil spirits, they also ensured blessings of angels and saints. While keeping the evil at bay, they were health-promoting: they provided protection against poisoning and the plague, attracted the benevolence of princes, and steered seafarers safely home. To possess supernatural powers, only astrological constellations were to arrange and to categorize natural gems. This is where the concept of lucky stones, i.e. stones associated with the signs of the zodiac, comes from.

Although Finland does not have the most costly precious gems, a surprising number of diverse, colorful stones have been found in the bedrock in Finland. To mention only few of them: unique Finnish spectrolite, granite, chrome marble, sun quartz and jasper. Some of the models also feature rock crystal, amethyst, green agate, amber and moonstone.
