The coining of money in Finland commenced around 1410. At that time, the only coining location was situated in the former capital Turku, where a half mark coin from the times of Gustav Vasa was minted in 1558. The coin has served as the model for this piece of jewelry. With this coin you could have bought, for example, two hares, fifteen litres of beer or a big jug of expensive wine imported from Germany.
Heads or tails jewelry celebrates the 600th anniversary of Finnish coining. The year 2009 also marks the tenth anniversary of Europe's common currency, the euro.
