Vellamo is known in Finnish folklore as the goddess of the sea and the wife of Ahti. In Kalevala she is the mistress of the deep. It is told that this water nymph has a long hair coming down to her waist. In the jewelry designed by Päivi Harjuhaahto, Vellamo's lock is depicted as a beautiful filigree design. The shape also portrays the rocking motion of waves. According to the beliefs, Vellamo appears first and foremost to men and if caught by a fisherman, Vellamo might try to seduce the man to become his wife.
