The prototype for this horseshoe-shaped brooch dating from the 1000s was originally made of partially gilded silver. The surface of the rim and the pin are adorned with circles and lines of dots and braiding. A thicker section in the centre of the brooch is decorated with a runic animal figure. Judging by the brooch?s individual design and careful craftsmanship, it was made for a highly esteemed customer.
